September 19th, 2008:

Dan Burkholder
The Color of Loss an intimate portrait of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina

Caption

An intimately disconcerting exhibition and narrative book, The Color of Loss documents the interior aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans homes and community centers. The magnetic and subliminal images record the brute force of nature on the delicacy of human occupancy in splintered and beautifully arranged chaos. The artist spent hours of tedious, patient investigation in New Orleans. The artist’s mastery of the new photographic technique of High Dynamic Range imaging yields an almost unnerving amount of detail previously impossible to capture in dark interiors.
